Mini-Raiders Pick Up Two Big Wins

The Mini-Red Raiders hosted Duxbury and Canton 5th grade boys travel teams Saturday night (Feb. 3) at the Horace Mann Charter 5th-6th Grade School in Marstons Mills and came out on top with two big wins.

     Engaged in a neck-and-neck battle with a lightning-quick Duxbury team throughout the game, it all came down to a pair of free throws with just 20 seconds left on the clock in the second half and the score knotted at 33-33. Conor Walsh missed the first one but hit his second free throw for the 34-33 lead and Barnstable dropped back into zone coverage. Duxbury's point guard tried launching a 3-pointer with 3 seconds left on the clock, but Walsh blocked the shot and the Mini-Red Raiders had the victory. Marcus Cunningham led all scorers with 11 points, followed by Walsh with 10 points.

     In game two versus Canton, Sam Telman led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Cunningham who had 7 points and Jack Telman with 4 points as the Mini-Red Raiders won, 39-27.

Mini-Red Raiders Go 2-1 in Somerset

Thanks to a superlative defensive effort by Marcus Cunningham and the offensive output by Sam Telman, Conor Walsh and Derek Estes, Barnstable came from behind a 12-5 deficit at halftime last Sunday (Jan. 28) to defeat Swansea, 28-13 in the Somerset Travel Tournament.

     Telman played spectacularly, dumping in 12 points and collecting 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season and had a game-high 5 steals. Walsh collected 8 points and Estes had 6 points. Cunningham fouled out with 1:30 to go in the fourth quarter, but his effort was enough as Swansea had no chance to come back. He had 2 points and a pair of steals and 5 rebounds. Tim Rodrigues, Darien Kaski, Rob Stuart, Justus Chaffee and Tom Mullen also played well in the victory. Chaffee had one assist, one rebound and one steal. Stuart had a steal and a blocked shot.
